N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.

Matamata Branch ; Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Matamata branch of the Farmers Union was held on Friday, evening last, Mr H. Rollett presiding. POLICE MATTERS. <* The Police Department acknowledged receipt of the branch's ' letter urging the appointment of a resident constable at Matamata, and in reply stated that owing to the reduction in the strength of the police force which has " taken place during the war, a constable cannot be spared at present, but when the shortage has been made up the Department hopes to be in a postion to agree to the request. HYDRO-ELECTRIC LEAGUE. The acting Prime Minister writing on hydro-electric matters said he had conferred with the Hon. Minister for Public Works regarding the Horahora works, and he was informed that proposals to purchase would shortly be submitted to cabinet. THE SALEYARDS.

The Farmers' Auctioneering Co. wrote stating that the question of concreting the saleyards had been receiving attention for some time, but unfortunately the plans had been lost. The company realised the importance of the work and will endeavor to hurry the matter as quickly as possible. AN AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE. The Provincial Secretary wrote stating that a remit was passed at the conference advocating that the aid of all branches be sought towards bringing pressure to bear on the Government to establish an Agricultural College at Ruakura. It was decided to write to Hon W. H. Herries M.P., asking him to bring the matter before the Ministers for Agriculture and Education. „, T/W • AMALGAMATION". At the request of the Provincial Executive it was decided to write to .the Waikato Co-op. Dairy Co and the N.Z.D.A. stating that the branch is in favor of the amalgamation of the two com-' panics. SOCIAL. It was resolved that the branch co-operate with the Town board in any movement with regard to giving a general, welcome to returned ; On Mr Simpson's motion it was decided to' hold a Farmers' Union social on a date in May.
