MATAMATA TOWN BOARD.

Fortnightly Meeting. The fortnightly meeting of the Matamata Town board was hold on Monday evening, the chairman, Mr J. Price, presiding. Messrs W. A. Gordon, G. G. Bell and J. F. Vosper were also present. . TOWN SECTIONS. The under-secretary, Department for Internal Affairs, in reply to the board’s letter and previous representations, stated that the matter of the handing over to the board of various reserves would he put before tho Minister upon his return from the South Island. Cr. Bell: That’s about as beautifully vague as they could make it. The letter was received. TRANSFERS. Messrs Hampson and Bell forwarded notice of sales of town properties as followsKells and Stott to Montague (Misses), McLeay to Hall, Hampson to Beeson and Johnston, Holmes to Holmes, Dawson to Hope, Buckley (Mrs) to Yardley and Cargill, Brown to Fort (Mrs), Kells (Mrs) to Vincent, Dawson to Yardley, Dawson to Mabbett, Finnerty to Lark, Dawson to Hill, Fitzgerald to Clothier. TOWN PLANNING. The Department for Internal Affairs forwarded a circular on the matter of town-planning, and invited a representative of the board to be present at a conference to be held at Wellington on a date in May. It was decided to deal with the matter at next meeting. DOG REGISTRAR. Two tenders were received for the position of dog tax collector. The tender of Mr J. Tyson at Is 3d and 2s 6d per dog was accepted. DOG COLLARS. Mr E. Jones’ tender of lOd per collar was accepted for the supply of dog collars. COW COLLARS. Tho chairman’s action in obtaining a supply of cow collars was endorsed. TOWN FOREMAN. The recently-appointed town foreman notified the board that owing to the County council not being able to get another man immediately he was unable to leave its employ directly. However, he hoped to make a start next week. POLICEMAN. The chairman reported having met Inspector Sheehan, who had informed him that he was sending in a report on the matter of stationing a constable in Matamata. He (Mr Price) was of opinion that the board should ask for an amount to be placed on the Estimates for a police station. It was decided to await a reply to a letter forwarded to the Hon. W. H. Henries, M.P. HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME. The chairman and Mr J. F. Vosper were appointed to represent the board at the hydroelectric'schome conferences. THANKS. On the chairman’s motion it was decided to write a letter to the Auckland Education board thanking it for tho use of the Matamata Technical school as a hospital during the epidemic. WAR MEMENTO. The chairman drew attention to the advisability of applying for a war memento. He pointed out that the district had given over two hundred of its boys to the Empire’s service, and it was but right that the department should recognise this. There were many suitable sites in the tow,n for a German or Turkish gun. It was decided to apply to the Defence department through the .officer commanding the No. 2 district (Major H. H. Browne). STOCK ROUTE AND YARDS. A discussion on the necessity for a stock route took place, the chairman mentioning that it was quite time stock were prevented from using tho main street. The remarks generally were agreed to. Mr Vosper asked if the Auctioneering companies had decided upon concreting the saleyards. He believed a meeting had been held. Ilis own opinion was that the yards should be shifted; they were too near the town. The chairman: Regarding the concreting the Health department should insist on tho companies taking action. It was decided to write to tho Auctioneering companies stating that the board was considering closing various roads to stock, and asking if the removal of the yards had been mooted by them. ACCOUNTS. An account of £1 16s was passed for payment.,
