The monthly meeting of the Matamata Town board will be held on Monday evening. We are indebted to the Matarnata postmaster, Mr G. Boagey, for the following vital statistics for Matamata during the past year: —Births 36, deaths 9, marriages 4. Preliminary arrangements are being made for the erection of a block of shops on the corner of Arawa street and Tower road. We are also informed that shops are contemplated on another central site. Only once before has frost been experienced at Matamata at the Christmas season. In consequence of the recent one many potato crops have received a set back irom which they will have great difficulty in recovering. Mr E. V. Quick, who for some years has been secretary to the Thames Valley Dairy company, has been appointed to a similar position in the Waikato Cooperative Dairy company at Wanrilton, and will take up his in February. Mr W. C. Morgan’s Ditto was responsible for two wins at the Auckland races, the mare annexing two hurdle events; Ring Lupin, from which much was expected locally, failed to provide anything towards the oat account. Tirau was another disappointment. Miss C. Edmonds, of “ Vi-Avi,’ Auckland, who had been in Matamata for several months, left by Tuesday’s express. A number of friends and well-wishers assembled at the railway station to bid “ au revoir” to one who had been such a great help to the district during the influenza epidemic. An omission from the Matamata A. and P. Association schedule was rectified at an executive meeting last Friday, when it was decided to include a class for best .harness horse. Exhibitors have previously com'plained that the best horse had not the chance to gain the distinction of being classed champion at Matamata shows. The prizempney was guaranteed by Mr W. S. Wilson. It was also decided to increase the prizemoney for the champion hunter class. ' # I At a meeting of the All Saints church committee, held on Monday evening, the opportunity was taken to bid farewell to the Rev. T. H. C. Partridge, who had acted as curate .for about three years. A presentation was also made by Mr W. Owen Garland, on behalf of the parishioners, the Rev. Partridge being the recipient of a heavy wollen travelling rug. Several speeches were made, the text of these being sterling admiration of Rev. Partridge as a clergyman, and as a citizen. Reference was also made to his work during the epidemic. Rev. Partridge feelingly replied. Horse lost. Shorthorn bull lost. Two bulls and a sheep straying. R. A. Walton has a New Year notice. New stocks at “The Value House.’’ English china at Stationer’s Hall. Notes on motor cars by D‘ Me L Wallace Ltd. Mr Chas. McFarlane, pianotunner, is at present visiting Matamata. On Thursday 16th inst. Dalgety and Co. are holding a clearing sale at Te Poi on account of Mr A. Beggs.
