FATAL ACCIDENT AT PUTARURU.
Timber Worker l Killed. A fatal accident occurred at the Bartholomew siding, near Putaruru, on Tuesday, a man named Gavin Graham Peacock, aged 50 years, being run over by a timber truck. The unfortunate man was employed by the Bartholomew Timber company, being in charge of its siding. There was no eye-witness to the accident, but it is surmised that some empty trucks fouled the line, and in trying to stop a loaded truck running on to them he got jammed and fell under the wheels. The loaded truck was jacked up and the man was still living. He was placed aboard the early morning train, but death occurred before Tirau was reached. The body was sent back to Putaruru, where an inquest was held on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was a wellrespected resident, was married and leaves a widow and six children to mourn their loss. He had been employed by the company for several years, prior to which he was resident in the Hawke’s Bay district, where his family is very well-known. The remains were interred at Putaruru on Wednesday afternoon after the inquest. i
