THE EPIDEMIC.
Matamata “All Clear.” The influenza epidemic, as far as Matamata is concerned, appears to have run its course, there being no cases in the immediate district reported for the last week or so. One nurse, Miss Malloy, is still engaged nursing patients in an out district, while Miss Edmonds is still at work, but on illnesses apart from influenza. Consequent to the abatement of the disease the Misses Findlay, Battersby and Ross, who are all school teachers, and who have ..been most indefatigable workers, have left Matamata for their homes on a well-earned holiday. The Matamata business people generally report a brightening of business during the past week, which they expect to increase ip value until Christmas time. Shoppers have no need to fear from entrance into the town for every precaution has been taken by tradespeople to protect their customers. Matamata is now clear of the disease, and is looking forward to business, which should be, consequent on the lull of the past few weeks, greater for the Christmas period than any yet experienced. Generally the stocks are clean, imported stuff, just opened up, which will be sold at prices which will defy town price lists. From latest inquiries it is reported that there are no fresh cases in the district from Walton to Lichfield. The whole county now appears to be clear, and thus business in all directions, which has been decidedly slack, may within the next few days assume something near normal conditions.
