TE POI.
During the last few days the roll of honor has contained the names of two of the local boys who answered their country’s call; Lieut. Holly Tombs and Private Tom Hargreaves. Lieut. Tombs left as a private with the 6th reinforcements, and up to a few weeks ago was considered among the lucky ones. The nature of his wounds are not yet known. Private Hargreaves left with the 36th reinforcements and had not been long in the firing line when he was badly wounded with' shrapnel, sustaining severe wounds to the face and the loss of three fingers of the right hand. Tom was a universal favorite and was an active member of the now defunct Te Poi Rugby Football club. His many friends will wish him a speedy recovery. The district was made aware of the peace news per medium of the local factory whistle which advertised the news in good style. The supply of milk to the cheese factory is steadily rising but owing to the lateness of the spring the supply is a little below last season. During the past few months numerous improvements have been carried out in and around the factory, it now being one of the best equipped factories in the Waikato. So far this district has been fortunate in escaping the epidemics ; only a few mild cases occurring. The metalling contractors are now commencing to make headway with their contract and a few months of seasonable weather should see the metalling of the roads completed.
