PUKETURUA
A social was held in the Puketurua school on October 11th to celebrate the occasion of the school extension. The school was built six years ago and on account of the increase in the attendance it was found necessary to double the size of the building. A ve.ry line selection of musical items was given and the performers and committee deserve great praise for the manner in which they carried out their work, giving all a very enjoyable evening. Notwithstanding the unusually severe winter experienced and rough weather still prevalent the feed is coming away and stock looking well. There are several very healthy looking oat crops which give promise of a fair harvest. At last the authorities are recognising the possibilities of the electrical power to be had by harnessing the Arapuni falls in the Waikato river. Early next month representatives from all interested parties are paying the falls a visit with the intention of determining the advisability of establishing electrical works. Their decision is awaited with interest, for should they decide to a furtherance of the scheme it will be necessary to construct the Te Awamutu-Putaruvu railway. This would be of vital importance to all the surrounding settlers.
