WALTON.

On Friday last a dance was held in the hall in aid of the NavyLeague. Mr Warner, of Morrinsville, was present, and during the evening gave an instructive address on the needs of the navy. The ladies of the district met together on Tuesday afternoon to arrange the sending of Christmas parcels to the soldiers representing the Walton district. It was decided to procure the parcels and have them sent on as soon as possible. The money is being raised by contributions. The same evening the Debating society held its meeting in the hall, a fair number being present and a very interesting discussion took place on “ Which is of the most value for educational purposes —reading or travelling.” On this occasion the leading parts were taken by two young ladies who handled the subject in a very capable manner. Miss Cook supported the side of the travelling, and Miss King reading, the voting going in favor of travel.
