WALTON.
Last Friday evening a large number of people gathered in the hall to bid farewell to Private A. Mapp. The evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with songs, the duties of M.C. being carried out by Mr G. Ross. Just before supper Mr T. Mears, on behalf of the residents of Walton, in a neat speech presented the guest of the evening with a wristlet watch. A few suitable words were also spoken by Mr Crawshaw. Private Mapp, in. responding, thanked tha residents for their present, and also the speakers for their kind remarks. On Saturday evening Mr Warner and a few friends from Morrinsville gave a concert in the hall in aid of the Red Cross, the whole of the proceeds to go to the Walton fund. Mr Warner had spared no pains in making the evening so successful. There was a good attendance, the proceeds amounting to nearly £l4.
