Mr John Cranswick, of Matamata, has been appointed a member of the Matamata Cemetery Trust and Domain Board, rice Mr J. McCaw, resigned. The greatest film-dom star, Charlie Chaplin, will be on the screen in one of his recently released films "The Adventurer," at Matamata on Saturday.
Among those who have been wounded during the Allies last offensive art several Matamata boys, Lance-Corporal A. Fort, Privates G. Buckley, Francis W. Hosking, and D. Holmes.
An interesting fact bound up with the election of Mr E. C. Banks, as chairman of the Auckland Education board a few weeks ago, is that at almost the same time his brother was elected chairman of the Canterbury board. Evidently runs in the family.
A number of friends will regret to learn that Mr" Jack Green, a returned soldier who has been staying with Mr J. Robinson, at Taihoa for some months, lost a brother last week—died at sea. Jack's father and two other brothers are also in khaki.
A photograph of the late Sergt. Vic. Robinson's grave was received from N.Z. High Commissioner by his parents last week. The photograph, taken by the Geneva Red Cross authorities! went to the High Commissioner through the German War office.
The final function in connecwith the Queen carnival campaign will be held on Friday evening (to-morrow) at Matamata. Invitations have been forvrarded to all the queens of the county, who will lead the grand march. The function is being well organised by the Matamata riding executive, and a right enjoyable evening is promised.
The Matamata "Copper Trail" effort seems to have met with general approval throughout the province, numerous uffioial and private letters of congratulation having already been received.
