PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

September Meeting.

Tho following business o interest tj this district wasf transacted at the Piako County council meeting on Monday : APPLICATION FOR GRANTSIt was decided to apply to the Government for £1 to £3 towards the cost of work on the WaitoaMatamata road. The opinion was expressed that the Morrinsville-Tahuna road was more important and that the above application should be regarded as second to that work. No reply has so far been received from the Government concerning the application for a subsidy to the Tahuna-Morrins-ville road. A MANAWARU CULVERT. E. G. Land asked the council to meet him in connection with expenditure incurred on a culvert carrying the drainage from two farms opposite his property into the Waiharakeke creek. Referred to riding member to report. A. NGARUA MATTER. Messrs Mickelsen, Scott, Lockyar, and Crawford were a deputation of Ngarua settlers, which waited on the council in reference to the suggested rating area for metalling the Waitoa-Ngarua road. Mr Scott said a meeting of settlers had favored taking in from the Pines to the Piraunui. Mr Lockyer was not altogether in favor of it. Mr Scott said the Ngarua settlers had never had justice whilst they were in the Manawaru riding. Cr. Fitzgerald : You might get out of the frying pan into the fire. Mr Lockyer thought the time had come for the riding to have two members. In his opinion tho rating area should go right to the Matamata county boundary. The proposed alteration of the Waihou and Manawaru boundaries entered into the discussion. Cr. McLean expressing the opinion that from the Diagonal road to the Matamata boundary should go into Walton. Mr Crawford said the boundaries suggested had been approved by the settlers. The chairman pointed out that no alteration could be made now without knocking on the head the whole proposal of amending the boundaries. Next year further alteration could be made. Cr. Fitzgerald opposed the present proposal; if they could not take the lot they should leave it until next year. The chairman then moved the resolution altering the boundaries of the Manawaru and Waihou ridings. Speaking to the motion he said he considered it in the best interests of the ratepayers. If subsequently the further portion wanted to come in he would not object, though it was possible it would be worked more advantageously from Walton. Later Stanley road might be taken into Manawaru. Cr. Walters seconded the motion. Cr. Fitzgerald objected on the ground that all the property to the Matamata boundary should be taken in and would not consent. The motion was carried.
