Matamata Concert. ji^' v ;*■ Supported by artists from Rotorua and Waiuku the Green Pierrots showed before, a good i audience at Matamata on Friday i evening last. The evening was very wet, otherwise it is probable that* the,,; hall would ' have been , packed. The entertainment was ; one of the best staged at Mata- . mata for some time, and all were , pleased with its brightness and the “go ” put in to it by the troupe, consisting ot Miss M. and E. Ross, Miss M. Robinson, Mrs , Ball, Miss Quinlan, Miss M. Edwards, and Messrs F. Connell ■ and A. G. Yardley. The visiting ladies and -gentlemen showed great ability with their numbers, and which were greatly enjoyed, 1 as were also those contributed by Miss M.: Heaps and Master “Billie” Ball. It is probable that the Pierrots will stage a full , programme in.-aid of soldiers’ gifts ' '-at a later date.; The programme was as follows Overtures, Mr Darby’s orchestra; song, Hawaiian ■ ButtpriJ.y ; ,'” Mr A. G. Yardley and Pierrots; song, “ In Madrid,” Gunner,Roidie; recitation, “Me Brother who Stayed at Home,”. Miss.. Mabel Heaps : song, Miss Hall; song, “While Daddy's at the War,” Billy Ball; song, “The Copper Trail,” Billy Ball, assisted by the little Misses Ball and Darby; songs; Private Malone ; song, “ When Irish Eyes are Smiling,” Miss M. Ross and Pierrotts; song, “ Beware of Chu Chin Chow,” Miss M. Robinson, and Pierrdts ;' Meribes “ Highland .Fling ” arid “ Sailors’ Hornpipe,” Master Frank Stewart; songs, ' -Miss West; songs, “ John Willie, ‘ tlbrrie On,” and “Taper-bag Cook.e.ry,” 5 Mr : : Tapper; song, “Every -Little While,—.-Mrs Ball and Pierrots • songs, • Miss Hall; song, l “ Gobd-bye-ri-o,’' Private Malone j.-and: Pierrots. The thanks of the troupe are particularly due to Miss Enid Ross, who taught the dances and steps, and to Mrs Darby who,was present at all Rehearsals. The,: whole effort was distinctly creditable to all concerned. After the concert the . Matamata surprise packet chief prizes were drawn, and the evening then devoted to dancing, the music for which was played by Mr • and Mrs Darby and Mr Cummings. Pierrot F. Connell was M.C During the singing of “ The Copper Trail ” by Billie Ball the sum of £5 was thrown on to the stage towards the Green Queen’s candidature Altogether the sum of.about£4o was derived.
