FANCY DRESS CARNIVAL.
Matamat a 5 s Final Effort. A fancy dress carnival, which included a “dark town” band was held in support of the Matamata Queen on Saturday, resulting „in about £25 being raised. The procession of horsemen with the band made a start at about 11 o’clock, and toured the town for cash, and then made its way to the Recreation ground. There, horse events were held and a game of football played, about 20 men in fancy dress taking part.. The ladies did excellent business, at a confectionery and afternoon tea stall. The committee which had the arrangements in hand 'was Messrs J. Price, W. Egan, J. Carnachan, R. Hope;; W. Darby, J. Griffiths, R. Burke, D. Laird, J. Cartwright, and A. Yardley (secretary!. A large ladies committee also rendered great assistance. ' 'The afternoon'provided plenty of amusement to all who were in attendance, and in addition it was well supported financially by many unable to get to the ground. ; ;;
