CHAIRMAN’S REPORT. The chairman reported that Dr Hughes, of Rotorua, had visited the town, had been met by him, and had been driven around the town and district. The inspector had ordered improvements to the sanitary arrangements of- various factories, and had later visited other parts. Mr Vosper said he was glad the inspector had arrived ; the wonder was that the Health department had not taken action before. The smells from the factories were certainly obnoxious and it was the duty of the board to see that everything was in order in the township. ' GENERAL. There was not much business before the meeting and before concluding the chairman expressed his thanks to the members for their attention to the business during the fourteen months they had been in office. The work had been conducted in a businesslike manner, despite the fact that the board had all the difficulties possible heaped upon ..it. yHe hoped the new board would carry out as good work. . Mr Vosper said he had pleasure as a member of the board, in thanking the chairman for the work he had done. Few realised to what this amounted to, but personally he had often noticed th« trouble he took to see that the affairs of the town district were, carried out in a proper manner* He felt that the thanks. ? of the residents were distinctly due to the chairman. ‘Mr Gordon endorsed the remarks. t The chairman, in thanking the members, said he was elected to the position, and that meant that he should carry out the work to the best of his ability. He would do this so long as the townspeople reposed confidence in him. The members generally complimented the clerk on the work he had done through the year, and/also thanked “The Press” for the prominence given to the board’s proceedings. ' s
