TIRAU.

The Okoroire Queen's (Miss Callaghan) campaign was opened at Tirau last week with a basket social. The magnificent sum of about £llO was realised. Mr R. Glynn L'jwis wielded the hammer.

A social promoted by Mrs Litchfield was held in the Tirau hall, in aid of the candidature of the Tirau queen. Over £2O was the financial gain. The evening was most enjoyable in every way, and was a distinct credit to the lady. i The Tirau Queen Executive have lost no time in preparing its campaign. Amongst the schemes for raising money now being worked are a surprise packet campaign, baby shows, ugly men competitions, jumble stalls etc. The committee anticipates shortly commencing a canvass of the district for direct donations. The recent frosts at Tirau were the heaviest yet experienced in the district. A light fall of snow was also experienced last week.

It is stated that nearly all the sections of the Paeroa estate (Pairere) are sold. Several of the settlers have entered on their properties. Among these is Mr D. Edwards, brother to " Manny " Edwards, of trotting fame. Mr Edwards has that fast horse False Alarm at Pairere with him. At the clearing sale last week, exceptionally good prices were realised for all lines-
