FOOTBALL SOCIAL.
A Large Attendance. In order ,to swell .the funds in aid of the candidature of the Red Queen, the Matamata Football Club and its supporters, Held a social in the town hall on Thursday evening last. The function was all the success that was anticipated, the attendance being perhaps beyond expectations. The floor was better than usual for dancing, while the music of Mr and Mrs Darby and Mr J. Cummings, was of the ususl finiahed character. With them, and Mr R. Hope as M.C., the dance portion of the programme could not but please. Mr Hope especially is to be complimented on the stand he took with regard to " encore " dances. Mr .Darby's orchestra is always consistent, so that one dance is as good as another; in that case then it must be • that it is those who have the best partners who wish for prolonged dances. The M.C. on Thursday had a gramme, and, that he completed' it—a very rare thing—is to his credit. As it was the dancers were not tired out, and all went home voting the function most enjoyable. A waltzing competition attracted a large number of entries. The judges selected Mrs Delancy and Mr Marko, and Miss Ross and MrOgden, for the final, and awarded the prizes to the latter couple. The supper was dainty and was thoroughly enjoyed. The committee has every reason to be proud of its effort, and the public will now look forward to the club's social each year. The hall was nicely decorated, among the greenery being the Matamata Rugby Union's banners.
