HINUERA ROADS.
Deputation Visits Council. A deputation, consisting of Messrs Davis and Graham, representing the settlers of Hinuera, waited upon the Matamata County council last week with respect to the very bad roads in the district. The former stated that the settlers were disgusted with the roads, and work which was now being carried out was worse than useless. It would pay better to pay the man to go home and sleep. He suggested that the settlers should be approached with regard to forming a special area and carrying a proposal for a metalling loan. Cr. Stopford and the chairman both spoke of the impending subdivision of the riding. The chairman stated that as soon as the riding was divided into two he was going straight out for a metalling loan. Four years ago he had tried to get a loan carried, and he was pleased to see that the people who voted against it then were now those who were crying out about the roads. The riding members suggested that as soon as the boundaries had been agreed on both would approach the settlers with loan proposals.
