TAIHOA.
A social evening in aid of the “ Queen of the Seas ” was held at Taihoa on Tuesday. The attendance was not as large as it should have been, but nevertheless those who faced the frosty evening were rewarded with a most enjoyable time. As*usual the floor was in perfect order, and the music played by Mrs Darby and Messrs Darby and Cummings was, as usual, of excellent quality. Mr M. Madill was an efficient and popular M.C. Vocal items were rendered by Master W. Ball and Mr A. G. Yardley. Both responded with encore items. Guessing competitions assisted to swell the revenue for the evening. In the first (weight of cake) Miss Gould and Mr W. Darby tied, and the gentleman withdrew in the lady’s favor. Miss Gould handed back the cake tor auction and it was sold repeatedly, realising over £7 in all. The correct weight of a parcel of butter was guessed by Mr E. Beeson, who also gave it back for auction. The butter, which was originally donated by Mrs Ellis, realised about £2 10s. The cake, about 91bs, was a nice specimen made and donated by Mrs Kemp. Before the evening was brought to a close the settlers thanked the musicians, singers and those who had lent motor cars for their kind services.
