ON THE SCREEN.
"The Secret Husband.” Altogether novel is the tale that is told in “ The Secret Husband ” or “ Mary Jane’s Pa,” the Yitagraph drama to be screened at Matamata on Saturday. Mildred Manning, a new Vitagraph star and Eulalia Jensen hold the feminine roles r while Marc McDermott, as the whimsical wanderer has a role that absolutely suits him. He strolls away one day from his native town, leaving his wife and daughter to shift for themselves. He returns and brings terrible disgrace and scandal upon his wife. She owns and is running with great earnestness and vim, the newspaper, and is carrying on a fierce campaign against a crooked politician. She cannot turn Hiram away, and takes him on as a sort of hired man, to do the housework. This provokes the tongues of the town scandalmongers. The concluding scene is full of surprises. The programme also includes a Gaumont Graphic, No. 4 Bairnsfather’s Cartoons and a comedy of 1000 ft. entitled Masks and Mishaps.
