STOCK SALES.
MATAMATA. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Co., Ltd., held its monthly sale at Mataniata on when there was a large sheep and cattle. Prices for dairy stock was not as bright as at; recent sales, although few good and forward beasts wero on offer. A pen of fat cows sold by Mr A. 11. Lambourne, brought LI .'3 11s per head. Sixty-four fat ewes for Mr W. F. Harding realised 28s Cd. Prices wore : Fat steers AlO 12s, fat cows AT2 5s to £l3 11s, fresh-conditioned cows £8 to £9 9s, store cows £5 10s to £7, steer calves (good quality) £4 to £5 os, heifers ~ (good quality) £o l(is to £4 7s, mixed sexes £2 15s to £3 10s, bulls £8 to £ll. Dairy stock.—Springing heifers £l2 to £ls, backward (poor) £5 15s to £0 ss, springing cows 4TI os to £l3 10s, backward sorts £8 to £9. Sheep.— Fat ewes 28s Oil, fat hoggets 20s 2d, storo hoggets 14s to 17s, smaller 9s 9d to 12s. The N.Z Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy. held its monthly stock sale at Matama*a on Wednesday. The yarding was • fair, but the attendance was not as good as usual. Bidding for dairy stock, which was not of good quality, was not brisk. Prices were : Sheep—Fat ewes 2is lu, fat hoggets 245. Cattle—Yearling steers (low condition) £4 2s Gd, yearling heifers £4 4s, othois £2 5s to £2 15s, store cows £5 12s to £8 15?, 2-year steers £9. Dairy stock—Cows in calf (good) £l2 to £ls ss, backward £9 os to £ll 10s, heifers £l2 5s to £l4 14s. A considerable quantity of sundries was sold, including shrubs, fruit and vegetables. HOPKINSVILLE There was a large yarding at the Fanners’ Auctioneering Coy.’e sale on Friday, dairy cattle coming forward in large numbers. Sheep sold well, and beef fetched good prices. There was an improved demaud for stores, and everything good in calves sold well, but for poor sorts there was little demand. In dairy cattle anything choice was in keen demand, but there was little, competition for poor or backward sorts. Prices: Prime fat ewes 27s 8d to 80s lid, medium quality 22s to 275, empty ewes 183 4d to 18s 6d, fat hoggets 2Gs 3d to 27s 3d, good quality hoggets 21s. Cattle, fat. steers £l4 14s to £LG 17s for a pen of 16 from the Hemara estate, 21 to 3-year steers £lO to £ll 17s, 18 months to 2year steers £5 to £7 lls, fat cows £lO 15s to £l2, fresh-conditioned cows £9 to £lO 7s 6d, store cows £4 2s 6d to £B, 18 mos. e npty heifers £6 2s to £7 2s Gd, good steer calves £4 10s to £5 5s for a pen from Mr R. Casey, Eurtka, heifer calves £2 7s (id to £3 2s Gd, poor quality calves 32s to 395, cows with calves at foot £lO 17s Gd to £ll 2s Gd. In dairy cattle 254 beasts were yarded. There was a big line of heifers from the North, but travelling had affected their condition and many were passed in. A line of 12 Jersey cross cows from Hereford Park made from £l7 10s to £l9 10s. Mr Price’s herd of 38 animals from Patefconga brought from £8 10s to £l4 os. A line of 12 21-year heifers in calf yarded by Mr A. Orr made £ll 15s to £l3 os. Choice dairy cows realised from £ls to £l9 10s, medium sorts £ll to £l3 15s, backward and poor quality £8 to £9 ss, 3-year-old heifers close to profit £ll 15s to £l3 os, medium quality £lO os to £ll 10s, backward sorts £8 5s to £9 10. :■%. CLEARING HALES. At Mr AV. H. Allen’s clearing sale at Tirau his herd of 72 Shorthorn cows made from 17 to 25 gns with an average of £l9 10s. Thirteen heifers fetched from 12£ to 17£ gns with an average of £l4 15s. Tho Farmers’ Auctioneering Company and N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Ageney conducted a clearing sale for Mr A. R. Vosper, at Springs road on Monday. There was an exceptionally large attendance and prices were on a par with the best gained this year. The bidding for implements was not up to expectations. Mr H. J. Pannett, of Hinuera, was the largest purchaser of cows, about twelve being knocked down to him. Among other buyers were Mrs Carroll (AVardville), and Messrs Troughtou, H. Delaney, F. Gibson, Vincent, and Noakes. The top price of the sale was realised, for a large framed Jersey grade cow, which was purchased by Mr Frank Richmond at £29. The average for the 34 cows, due to calve, was slightly over £lB. Eleven cows and heifers, in milk, brought forth an average of £l2 9s Gd. Twelve yearling steers realised £4 per head; but the owner refused to part with his heifers at the prices offered. Empty cows (five) brought from £5 10s to £B. After the above sale-some cows were offered and sold for Mr A. C. Vosper, realising fair prices. Grade Shorthorns, for Mr R. Garland, sold,extremely well, Mr Vosper’s top price being equalled by one cow. Mr Garland intends milking Jerseys only.
