FOOTBALL.
Matamata 3 v. Mot*r*insville 15. The second match of the season was played in Matamata on Saturday, Morrinsville being the opponents of the local team. There was a good attendance. The match was not as good an exhibition as the previous one, the Matamata team being much weaker than the one which played against the soldiers, and consequently was unable to put up a decent fight against the "nippy" Morrinsville players. The latter early opened their score, Mclntyre playing a " lone hand" for a try. Later in the first spell J. Baker landed a penalty goal, making the score six to nil. The second quarter was the only one in which Matamata played anything like a team, and from a good opening by Partridge Bailey scored a try. In the third spell ,Morrinsville scored through the agency of Morrice, and again a few minutes later through O'Brien. Ir! the last quarter Morrinsville added a further three points by a try scored from a ball which was passed quite five yards forward. Baker failed with an easy kick at goal. The Morrinsvilje team, on the light side, appeared as though it would, with the elimination of about two "passengers," put up a. good record. Mclntyre and Baker (2) were the pick of the forwards, whilst Seville, O'Brien and Morrice were prominent in the backs. Matamata will not be able to play good football until they are less selfish. The players have no confidence in each other, through lack of practice. Findlay, Stewart, Holmes and Harding were most prominent. Partridge was early incapacitated through cramp. The following team will represent Matamata on Saturday next: —C. Stewart, B. Sims, F. Connell, J. Wallace, Sweetman, Burnett, R. Radford, F. Holmes, S. Kerk, L. Connell, Bailey, R. Fissenden, J. Morrow, M. Scott, G. Findlay. Emergencies —J. Mason, B. Stubbings, E. Kilbride.
