RED CROSS WORK

Address by Organiser*. The organiser f©r the Auckland district in Red Cross work visited Matamata to give an address last Thursday. Accompanying him was a select concert party ; and, despite the bad weather a large number of residents assembled at the Public hall. Mr Bickford stated that a great effort was being made to raise £250,000 in the Province, and suggested of this sum Matamata might contribute £IO,OOO, and Tirau £IO,OOO. It was decided that the chairman of the Town board, Mr J. Price, should call a public meeting to discuss means of raising the Matamata quota. The concert company comprised artists of great ability and provided a most enjoyable-evening.
