TIRAU.
A farewell social at Tirau was tendered to Mr J. Johanson on the eve of his departure for camp last week. Mr Johanson is the first married man to leave the district, and the residents turned out in large numbers to the function. A presentation of a silver illuminated wristlet watch was made by Mr J. W. Anderson on behalf of the Tirau Patriotic association. Mr Anderson’s address was fitting to the occasion. The evening was mainly devoted to dancing, which was indulged in to good music supplied by Mrs Stewart (piano) and Mr L. F. Bell (violin). Extras were nicely played by Miss Plainlyn. Mr Couborongh was M.C. During the evening a recitation “ Lasca ” was capably recited by Mr V\. Craig, who responded again with a lighter piece.
