HEAVY TRAFFIC
The Glaxo Problem At Monday’s meeting of the Piako County Council the proposed agreement between the Council and the directors of the Waihou Valley Dairy Company arrived at at the recent conference between representatives of the parties concerned was read. This has already appeared in the Star. The chairman said it was considered there would be a better chance of carrying the loan if the work were taken to Hogan’s corner. The chairman of the company had written to Nathan & Co. and had received a reply that they were agreeable to this course “ if they were freed from any further liability.” Cr Smith asked if it was proposed to reinforce. The engineer replied both were laid down in America and both gave good results. In the reinforced proposal less concrete was used, but against this was the tremendous cost of expanded steel. Cr Walters said his information was that maintenance was heavy. The engineer could not agree to this and considered there must be some mistake in Cr Walters’ information. The council appoved of the resolution and passed a motion to that effect. A letter from the Waihou company confirming the resolution was received. Councillors expressed the opinion that the £SO would not cover the maintenance. Cr Fitzgerald wanted to know exactly what “ they were freed from all further liability” meant. After further discussion the matter was left in the hands of the committee —the chairman, Crs. Walters and Fitzgerald.
