New patrons of the Matamata movies may yet pick up the thread of the story <l The Black Box”- the thrilling detective serial running into its fifth instalment on Saturday evening next. Mr R. A. Stanley who has been in business at Matamata left on Tuesday to go farming on the Hauraki Plains. The annual meeting of the Farmers Union will be held in the Town Hall on Friday evening, when officers for the ensuing year will be elected. The Valuation department gives notice that the valuation rolls for the Matamata county and Matamata town district will be open for inspection from April 24th to 14th May. Objections must be lodged not later than May 14th. A white stag is said to be something rare to fall to the guns of sportsmen, but rather a good specimen was secured by Messrs W. Livingstone end Neels, of Matamata, last week. The stag was shot by them on the hills at the back of Peria. At the Provincial Executive meeting of the Farmers’ Union in Auckland last week, the question of stock trains was discussed as. the result of the reading of a communication from the Matamata branch stating that if the timetable of trains between Frankton and Matamata were altered only a few minutes it would enable stoek to travel 40 miles in one .day, instead of taking two days as at present. A further communication from the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., to the Matamata braneh of the Farmers’ Union was read. It stated, inter alia, that the Department might easily make the alteration as suggested. The matter was referred to a committee, with power to act, and it was decided to send a copy of the latter letter to the Minister of Railways. At the annual meeting of the Matamata branch of the Farmers’ Union, to be held in the Town hall, on Friday (to-morrow) evening, an address will be given, on electric power, by Mr W. P. Gaiivain, chief engineer to the Walihi Goldmining Co., Ltd. The speaker will deal with his subject from the aspect of town lighting, and power for driving milking machines and farm work generally. Mr Gauvain’s address should be specially interesting in view of the enormous saving which farmers would experience by the introduction of electricity to the Matamata district. All are invited to attend. I used to be a martyr to bronchitis, A victim sad of winter ills and ails. Till I was told by chatty Mrs. Kightis. Of a remedy that really never fails. The winter time now scarcely seems to try me, Tho' I sometimes get a twinge, you may be sure; But I always keep a large-sized bottle by me. Of Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure. 13
