HUNGAHUNGA DRAINAGE BOARD.

April Meeting. Mr J. A. Clothier (chairman) presided at Saturday’s meeting of the above board at Te Aroha. There were also present Trustees F. E. Hughes, J. Orr, J. Pohlen and the engineer, Mr W. R. Johnson. CONFERENCE. Correspondence was received from the Ohaupo and Te Rapa Drainage boards offering to cooperate in the proposed conference of drainage boards to draw up model by-laws. The Hautapu and Rotomanuka Drainage boards also notified their support. It was decided to endeavor to arrange for the conference at Te Aroha on May 18th, at 1.30 p.m. A PROTEST. Mr G. Given, Walton, telegraphed objecting to pay the Waihekau special loan rate until he is paid for a drain taken possession of by the board, and for damage caused to his land. The clerk reported that Mr Given had paid his rates. AN OBJECTION. Mr C. Stainer waited on the board in reference to rating, and stated that he received no benefit for drains for which he had been rated. —He was advised to construct some drains himself, and would thus not be liable to “A ” rating. CLASSIFICATION. Mr W. Davis, Manawaru, waited on the board in reference to classification of his land, and asked that investigation be made with a view to re-adjustment or re-classification. The board admitted an injustice had been caused, and it was decided to take steps to amend the classification. THE WAIHEKAU. Mr T. J. Michie, ISlgarua, drew the attention of the board to the bad state of part of the Waihekau stream known as Scott’s contract. Silt on the sides was very bad, and required cleaning. —Referred to chairman with power to act. LOAN PROPOSAL. A resolution applying for a special loan of £450 was carried. BALANCE SHEET. The treasurer presented the balance sheet, which had been audited and found correct. Members considered the statement of the board’s position very satisfactory indeed. CLASSIFIER. Mr W. R. Johnson was appointed to amend the classifications of several properties in the board’s district.
