PERIA.
RED CROSS MEETING. The annual meeting of thp Peria branch of the Auckland Women’s Patriotic League was held recently. The following report of the work for the year ending December 28th, was submitted by the secretary:— During the year nineteen meetings were held, and donations were generously contributed by Mesdames Schofield, Duxfield, Lambourne, Free, Misses Blennerhassett, and Messrs Lock, Mogford, Beeson, Brown, Bray and Draper. In July, the branch severed its connection with the Matamata Red Cross society, and became a branch of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League. In September the branch held a bazaar for the purpose of raising money to send to the distrietboys at the front. A this function, the very satisfactory amount of £2lB 14s lid was realised. This enabled the branch to send 25s in cash to every boy who had left the district up to that date. Dating the year the branch forwarded to the league’s headquarters in Auckland the following:—77 underflannels, 12 underpants, 27 suits of pyjamas, 6 extra pyjama pants, 4 day shirts, 12 dressing gowns, 3 face cloths, G pair sox, 96 bandages, 50 magazines.
