The annual meeting of subscribers and social in connection with the local ball was held on Friday evening. Perfect climate conditions thereby, no doubt, assisted in drawing together the large audience which assembled. The proceedings opened with the National Anthem after-which the following musical programme and, judging W the applause, was thoroughly enjoyed by those present':- i-Piano-forte duet, Misses Murray; song, Miss Myra Ross; song and dance (comic), Mr Bolton (encored); song, Miss Zillah Murray; song, Mr Insull (encored); song, school children; song (humorous), Mr Bolton ; song, Miss Myra Ross. Accompaniments were played by Mrs Insull and Misses Murray and Grigg. - Mr C. Smith, chairman of the hall committee who occupied the chair, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the performers which was carried by acclamation. He then called on Mr L. Mapp, secretary of the hall committee, to read the annual report and balance sheet, which showed that the debit balance at the bank had been reduced during the past year from £l5O to £6. In moving that the balance sheet as read be adopted, the chairman explained that the large sum of £ll4 had been raised during the year by means of a miscellaneous fair promoted by the ladies of the district. Tie committee had abandoned the scheme of enlarging and improving the" hall by addition of supper and anti-rooms owing to the prohibitive prices of roofing iron and other necessary requisites. He also announced that the Wizard lighting system was, now being installed, and would shortly be in use. Mr G. W. Ross seconded the motion which was carried unanimously. The following committee was elected for the ensuing year. Messrs I/. Mapp, J. Dickey, C. H. Trapski. A. Adams, E. Marr, C. Smith, W. McLean, F. Smith and A. Mapp. Mr H. W. Insull was appointed auditor. Mr Lewis Mapp moved a special vote of thanks to Mr J. Dickey (treasurer) assuring those present that much of the success of the year’s work was due to the energy and enthusiasm displayed by that gentleman, Dancing was indulged in for some hours with a short interval for refreshments of which there was an ample supply. The nett result was a sum of £5 10s which will be utilised in defraying the cost ,of the new lighting system. A number of the settlers on the eastern end of the district are now delivering their milk at the Glaxo depot at Waharoa.
