ON THE SCREEN.

“ Plain Jane.” A clever Triangle drama “Plain Jane” will be screened at Matamata, on Saturday. It is a tale of a little nobody whose beauty wins her a home, husband and happiness. She is a slavey in a small country town whose main title to fame is a college. The role of college student who subsequently becomes Plain Jane’s husband is an opportunity for Charles Ray in a new type of role. He is a serious-minded student who lives only for books and a career until he really discovers how bright the servant is. Bessie Barriscole does clever work as the untidy badly dressed girl, who under the influence of a little admiration blossoms out in the most remarkable way. A fine off-set to Jane is provided by Ethelda Rathbone, the daughter of one of the college professors who angles for the student with devotion and earnest persistence. The programme also includes a 1000 ft Keystone comedy, a Pathe scenic, and a Gaumont Graphic. SHOW NIGHT. A special programme will be screened on Show night, one of the films featuring the great Charlie Chaplin. Charlie is said to excel even himself in this film of 2000 ft and picture patrons cannot fail to be gratified. Robert Warwick is screened in 4,500 ft drama “The Shopwalker.”
