VALEDICTORY.

SVBA. T. Mitchell. On an evening of last week about forty employees of the Matamata “Glaxo” factory assembled to hid farewell to Mr A. T. Mitchell, a member of the staff, who was about to be transferred to the Bunnythorpe factory. In presenting Mr Mitchell with a valuable shaving, hairdressing and manicure set, Mr R. Scott said that it was a token of the esteem in which ho was held by all the employees, many of whom had known him and worked with him for a number of years. During the late manager’s absence on a business trip of four months Mr Mitchell had been acting manager, and it was during that period particularly that his excellent qualities had been especially demonstrated. He had then denied himself to allow employees to take advantage of any little pleasures available, and it was little kind actions such as he (the speaker) had mentioned that had endeared him to the staff. In short Mr Mitchell, was a man amongst men, and was absolutely fair. That he had. proved his ability in connection with the factory was demonstrated by the fact that the firm had again promoted him. He and his wife had the esteem, and best wishes of the employees for their future welfare. Mr Mitchell feelingly responded. The members of the staff who were off-shift later assembled at Mr Mitchell’s home, where a musical evening was spent. It was there demonstrated, when hearts was opened, how much the departing comrade was appreciated by bis fellow-workmen and workwomen. Mr and Mrs Mitchell left Matamata last week-end.
