A TIMELY RESCUE.
Local Resident Injured. On Friday morning last a plucky deed was performed by a local railway porter, Mr E. Lark, a deed which was timely enough to- prevent what would possibly have been fatal injuries to Mr J. Griffiths, who is employed at the "Glaxo" factory. It seems that a railway truck was being propelled along the siding with Mr Griffiths standing on it. A heavy gate stood open to let the truck pass through, but just as the latter was approaching the heavy wind caused the gate to slam into the truck. The force of the impact threw Mr Griffiths in front of the truck, and, but for the great presence of mind of Mr Lark, he would undoubtedly have been run over. The porter did his best to stop the truck's forward motion, and at the same time pushed Mr Griffiths forward until clear of the line. Mr Griffiths was unable to move, but after receiving medical treatment declined to be sent to the hospital. He was conveyed to to his home, where he is still confined to his bed, and is progressing favorably.
