HUNGAHUNGA DRAINAGE BOARD.
February IVJeeting. Mr J. A. Clothier presided at last Saturday’s meeting of the above board. There were also present Trustees J. Polilen, J. Orr and W. Crawshaw. An apology for unavoidable absence was received from Mr F. E. Hughes. WARDVILLE DRAIN. Mr G. Newsome, Wardville, wrote pointing out that the main drain that comes up through his property to the Wardville road as originally constructed was too crooked and had to be straightened, with the result that now a portion of his land is useless until the drain is filled in. He wanted to know if it is the board’s intention to have this old piece of drain as originally constructed filled in. Mr Pohlen explained the position and suggested that the letter be referred to the engineer.— Agreed to. WAHAROA DRAIN. Mr Thos. Thompson, Waharoa, wrote: —•“ Some years ago, to give Messrs Blyth, Weeks and others an outlet for their water, the board had two drains made which came a few chains into what is npw my section where the water was left from which I have suffered considerable loss. With the big drain now past what is our outlet, and knowing that your engineer’s plans provides for the above drain, I sincerely trust that you will have the job put in hand and make us safe for the coming rainy season.” —Referred to engineer. BOUNDARIES. The assistant Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, forwarded a copy of the Gazette containing an Order-in-Council extending the boundaries of the Hungahunga drainage district. BY-LAWS. Consideration of the proposal to draft a set of by-laws was deferred, the opinion being expressed that all drainage boards should contribute towards the cost of preparing by-laws suitable for each drainage district. It was decided to invite other drainage boards to attend a conference at Hamilton to discuss the matter. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer’s report was adopted. Arising out of the engineer’s report the clerk was instructed to write thanking the Matamata County council for promptly lowering the culvert across the Wardville road. WAHAROA LOAN. The engineer was instructed to prepare data re the loan proposal for the Waharoa area. MATAMATA LOAN. It was decided to hold a special, meeting on Saturday next to adopt a proposal to raise a loan of £450, being 10 per .cent, additional on the £4500 loan already authorised for work at the Matamata end of the district. WAIWHERO DISTRICT. Mr Clothier reported the result of the conference with the county chairman re the proposal to include the Waiwhero district as a special rating area. The cost of the work required in that locality was far heavier than at first understood, but if the settlers affected were willing to come in under the circumstances he took it that the board would not object. MANAWARU. Some improvement is to be effected to the drain near Kell’s and McDowell’s, at Manawaru, the chairman reporting that the expense of the suggested work would cost about £lO. The major work could not be undertaken.
