Samoa getting richer slowly
Western Samoa is no longer in the group of nations with the 20 lowest per capita incomes in the world, World Bank figures show. Western Samoa has a per capita income of SUS3SO. In 1975 it was SUS32O. Western Samoa is only SUSIO outside the group of 20. Mauritania with a per capita income of SUS34O is in the group. There are 42 nations, mainly African, with the 20 lowest per capita incomes. The lowest is held by Bhutan with SUS7O and the Leo Peoples Democratic Republic with SUS9O. In the Pacific Fiji’s per capita income according to the 1976 figures is SUSI,ISO, Papua New Guinea SUS49O, New Zealand $U54,250 and Australia SUS6,IOO. Tonga does not appear in the annexes but in the atlas section is classified in the SUS2OO-SUS499 bracket of 1975 per capita incomes. The richest nation on earth is the oil soaked state of Kuwait with a per capita income in 1976 of $U515,480. American Samoa is included in the richest classification in the atlas; SUSS,OOO per capita.
