Television
Five minutes of “News in Maori” before Television One’s 6.30 p.m. News is being proposed by the Wellington based Maori language group, Te Reo Maori.
Te Reo Maori says a Maori Language 'Production Unit should be established at Television One to produce programmes in the Maori language. This would include gathering, editing, researching and producing programmes in Maori with special emphasis on the “News in Maori”.
Hopefully this unit would consist of a producer, an editor and five reporters based in central cities around New Zealand.
Television is seen by Te. Reo Maori to be a major force in the development and growth of the Maori Language. It is hoped it will increase the awareness of New Zealand’s cultural plurality and reinforce Madri cultural values.
