Ruatoki Judging Hui

A school will be held at the Totara Marae from February 3-5, Ruatoki in an attempt to standardize judging procedures of cultural competitions, especially action songs. Various aspects of the traditional powhiri and karanga will also be looked at. Involved in this will be

Maori Language teachers from the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and the East Coast. Among the organizers are Mrs Moe Pewhairangi, John Rangihau, Sam Karetu and Mrs Tikina Noema. The Urewera hapu of Ruatoki will be hosting. A Certificate of Maori Studies is to be awarded to part-time students who have completed three years of study with the Department of Continuing Education at the University of Waikato. The certificates will be awarded at the Pakirikiri Marae, Tokomaru Bay in February. All interested persons may contact David Guy, The Dept, of Continuing Education, University of Waikato, Hamilton.
