A Maori Burial ground was thought to have been bulldozed by The Housing Corporation Contractors in Beach Road, North Te Atatu. The graves were unmarked it was reported there were five of them. Following the complaints, a writ filed against the Waitemata City Council was heard on October 28 in the Supreme Court. On the 16th October the biography of Te Puea Herangi was previewed at Turangawaewae marae. Michael King wrote the biography. It took him three years. High mercury levels in lemon fish are worrying scientists and doctors. Approximately 500 school children around Auckland are to be tested. Aside from the small fish all the sharks tested by the D.S.I.R. had mercury levels exceedingthe food and drug regulations. Kia tupato e hoa ma, te whangai i a koutou tamariki kite “fish and chips.” Last week 30 policemen had first-hand experience of Maori life and culture when they spend the weekend on the Waahi marae near Huntly.
Te Wai Ariki Meeting House, of Te Whaiora Marae, Otara, was opened last week by Mr Mclntyre, Minister of Maori Affairs. Visitors to the Grey Lynn Neighbourhood Law Office last month were two women from Moscow University, Russia, and two local MPs, Richard Prebble and Eddie Isbey.
