Mr Hamish Keith, Chairman of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, announced that an

emergency grant of $2,000 has been made to assist with the carving of Tumutumu whenua at the Orakei Marae.

Other grants in the area of traditional Maori arts have been made available for carving programmes at the Hairinui Marae in Tauranga and the Mihiroa Marae in Hastings. Assistance was also given to the Otiria Marae in Northland. for the upgrading of storage facilities for archival material. Te WaahiPounamu Maori Arts Festival which will be held at Murihiku Marae, Invercargill, in January 1978, has received assistance towards the costs' of fares and fees for tutors of the traditional Maori Arts and Crafts.
