Tongan Bank Workers in Auckland
Four members of the Bank of Tonga are at present in Auckland on service leave and are all working in the main Banks in the city. Isi Tu'ipulotu, who started when the ank of Tonga opened its doors for business in 1974, works at Bank of New Zealand, Queen Street, Miss Neo Helu and 'Ana Seini Manu at the Ponsonby Branch of the same bank, and Mrs Mele Taufa at Bank of New South Wales, Queen Street.
The insurge in numbers here of the staff from this only Bank in Tonga co-incides with the opening last week of the Training Programme for a newly registered Tonga Development Bank (TDB). Already another banking chapter in the history of Tonga was the registered of 'the Bank of South Pacific, which is a Canadian/Tonga development in allowing overseas financiers to be present in Tonga.
Y n the period of four years, three financial institutions like these banks have been established in Tonga. The first Bank in Tonga was the Bank of Tonga, which comprises of interests by Bank of New Zealand, Bank of Hawaii, Bank Of New South Wales.
