Polynesian Centre

An advisory service and community centre for Pacific Islanders will be established at the former Bayfield School in Herne Bay, Auckland. The Pacific Islanders’ Educational Resource Centre already operates from part of the former school. The new centre will provide a single common location where Pacific Islanders can focus their community ac-

tivities says the Minister of Education, Mr Gandar. “In addition, the centre will be used for extension education programmes and as a referral point where migrants can go for advice and assistance," adds the Minister. The old school building will be renovated and a central meeting hall will be developed. The cost of the new centre will reach nearly $65,000.
