Tents have been erected at Hagley Park, Christchurch, under the leadership of Rongo Nihoniho.They claim that this land rightfully belongs to the Maori people of Christchurch.
Titewhai Harawira of Ayondale, Auckland is at present attending an “aboriginal Land Rights Conference” in Australia. She has gone in support as a representative from Bastion Point. A conference was held recently in Rotorua for Maori Lawyers and Graduates to discuss ways of improving court proceedings for Maoris. A fund raising project organised by Dr George De Latour and others, for Maori students from Ngatiporou (East Coast) who will be seeking higher education, has now reached $lO,OOO. Principals of Secondary Schools met for a Seminar on Maoritanga at Te Tira Hou Marae. Panmure, last week.
