RATES OF POSTAGE ON LETTERS, BOOK-PACKETS; AND NEWSPAPERS, WITH THE REGULATION'S AFFFCTING THE POSTAGE, TRANSMISSION, AND DELIVERY OF THE SAME. LETTERS. I.—lnland Letters. From any part of New Zealaud to any other part of New Zealand:— Not exceeding | oz 2d. Exceeding | oz, and not exceeding 1 oz. 4d. „ 1 oz, „ 2 oz. Bd. And so on, increasing fourpence for every additional ounce or fraction of au ounce. 2.—To the United Kingdom. Br Southampton or hy direct ship — Not exceeding rz 6d. Exceeding ez, and 3»ot exceeding 1 oz. Is. „ ioz ~ 2oz 2s. And so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. By Marseilles— Not exceeding h oz in weight lOd. Letters addressed to Honykong, Penang, Singapore, and any part of China or Japan, the Philippine Islands, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Labuan, the Moluccas, and Siam, are chargeable as follows Not exceeding \ oz Is. Exceeding \ oz~ and not exceeding loz 2s. And so on, increasing two shilling* for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. B.—To Naval Officers on Foreign Stations. Letters addressed to officers serving on board any of her Majesty's ships on a foreign station, when fent through the United Kingdom, are chargeable as follows Not exceeding |oz Is. Exceeding oz, and not exceeding Irz 2s. „ l"oz „ 2oz 4s. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 9.—'To Naval Seamen and Soi diers. Letters sent to or by Seamen and Soldiers in her Majesty's service will he transmitted within the colony,"and between the colony and any postoffice in the United Kingdom, at a charge of ONE penny, provided that the following regulations are observed : 1. Each letter must net exceed half an ounce in weight. 2. It must he superscribed with the name of the writer, his description or class in the vessel or regiment, and signed by the officer at the time in command. 3. The postage must be prepaid. Every letter of this description posted or received m this colony, not in accordance *vith the foregoing regulations, will be treated as an ordinary letter. 10.—Free Letters. Letters on the public service of her Majesty's naval and military forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if bearing the words " On Her Mpjesty's Service," and the signature of the officer in command of the force on the service of which the letter is despatched. But such letters cannot be transmitted by any irregular route, or one entailing additional expense on the colonial Government. , Lettti*9 on the public service of the General Government of tho colony are transmitted fn e by post, if bearing the words "On the public service only,'' and the signature of some officer of the General Government authorised to frank letters. 11.— Registered Letters. Registration Fee to places within the colony 6d. Registration Fee to Australian colonies, India, and the United Kingdom Is. In addition to the ordinary postage chargeable on any letter—except in special cases.
