THE ARROW QUARTZ REEF.

The following letter has been kindly handed to us for publication by Mr Haughton, secretary Ito the Arrow Quartz Mining Association. It ! will be seen to bear the signature of Mr Bradshaw, of Queenstown, a gentleman of considerable experience in quartz mining, and to whose opinion most of our readers will doubtless Queenstown, June 7. Dear Sir, —At your request I visited the quartz reef at the Arrow, situated about half a mile | from the township, upon which you purpose form- ! ing a gold mining company. I find the lode in ' every respect to agree with the report of Mr 1 Surveyor Wright, furnished you, and published !in the colums of the Wakatip Mail. The lode j appears to be widening at the northern end, i where it is dipping at angle of about 25 deg. j The rock or lode is of two kinds, both highly ' ferruginous —brown and blue—and is of that j description in high favor with practical and ! scientific authorities. I had pieces of the lode broken off in several places, and in every piece I gold was perceptible to the naked eye. The : tailings or refuse from the present rude way of ' crushing and extracting the gold, will admit of being treated again, after the action of the atmo- ■ sphere has disintegrated the gold from its matrix, j My opinion is that with proper crushing and | amalgamating appliances, the rock will yield on ian average six ounces per ton. In consequence ! of the quantity of sulphur contained in the lode, | the whole of it should be well calcined prior to ; crushing. j I am, &c., J. B. Bradshaw. C. E. Haughton, Esq.
