ARROW QUARTZ MINING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the shareholders and others interested in working the recently discovered reef, was held at the Arrow on Friday last, when the following results were arrived at: — " That in consequence of the Goldfields Secretary requiring that the proposed capital of the Association should be placed upon the ground in cash, the amount of capital to be raised be altered in the application for the lease to 2000/." It was also resolved to suspend all further proceedings with regard to the formation of the company until the intentions of the Government on the subject shall be ascertained. The remainder of the business transacted was f a private nature, but great indignation was expressed at the obstacles unnecessarily thrown in the way by the goldfields secretary. On Saturday, a public enquiry took place before Lowther Broad, Esq., R.M. and Warden, into the truth of the matters alleged in the application for the lease. The prospectors and others were examined on oath from a series of written questions, forwarded from Dunedin, one of which was—" Is it intended to work by means of a joint stock company or a body of associated miners?" Some remarks were made upon the subject of Mr Wright's report being returned to Mr Pyke.
