WEBSTER VERSUS SYMONDS.
i To the Editor of the Lake W*katip Mail. j Sib, —In your paper of the 30th ult. you make some remarks on this case which I wish to correct, and which would appear to ; have come to you through some interested party. You state that when Mr. Webster pegged off the ground, that there was a tent upon it, that the occupier had a business licence, and that Mr. Webster had agreed to purchase the tent, &c. Now this is not the case, as the owner of the tent can testify. He had no business licence; and so far from Mr. Webster wishing to purchase the tent, he distinctly refused when asked by the pro- : prietor to do so. W. G. Symonds. [We willingly admit the error complained of, and which arose through the unavoidable absence of our reporter at the time the case was tried. A person, who, from his position, should have some claims to be considered a gentleman, furnished us with the report, which we have since learned to be incorrect, if not wilfully falsified. Were it not a breach of confidence we would I publish the name of this gentleman (?). To Mr. Warden Broad we beg to tender an apology, < and express our regret that such a mis-statement | should have occurred.—Ed. W. M.]
