WAKATIP DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
According to the notce issued in the Government Gazette, a meeting of the subscribers to the Wakatip Hospital took place on Thursday, at noon, at the Court House, Queenstown. The meeting was remarkable for the paucity of attendance—not more than twenty being assembled. Mr. Broad, Warden, was elected chairman.
The chairman explained the object of the meeting, which was to elect the permanent committee for the proper management of the Hospital, and to appoint officers. He was ignorant of what had taken place in reference to the affairs of the institution, having not been connected with the previous committee; but he would be willing to render it any assistance in his power, as he was now to be permanently resident in the district. Mr. Gordon requested to be informed how many were to be elected for the committee, and what qualification was necessary. The chairman replied that the number rested with the meeting. The members were to be elected by a majority of the contributors—annual subscribers of £\, or donois of £lO in one sum, were entitled to vote. Mr. Luscombe moved that thirteen be elected. Mr. Bruce said that he had received two communications —one from the Arrow, and one from the Twelve-mile, stating that they had elected their representatives at each locality—for the Twelve-mile, Messrs. Healey and Callaghan; and for the Arrow, Messrs. Richmond, Melody, Douglas, Spencely, and Mendershausen. The communication also stated that owing to the distance, but few of the residents of either locality would be able to attend. The chairman considered that it would be only common courtesy to elect the gentlemen named in the communications, as they had already been put to great inconvenience. Mr. Bradshaw said that as the Arrow and Twelve-mile had seven members, Queenstown should have seven also. There was also Maori Point, Frankton, and Kingston. Thirteen would be too few. Mr. Luscombe withdrew his motion. Mr. Bradshaw proposed that nineteen should be the number elected.
Seconded by Mr. Wi lsh, and carried.
Mr. Bruce proposed that the election of the gentlemen named in the communications from the Arrow and Twelve-mile be confirmed.
Seconded by Mr. Rees, and carried. Mr. Bracken proposed Mr. Bradshaw to represent Maori Point. Mr. Bradshaw begged to decline, as he would not have the time to attend to the duties.
Dr. Combe remarked that it was understood at Maori Point that Mr. Bradshaw should represent them. Mr. Bradshaw again excused himself. Proposed by Dr Combe and seconded by Mr. M'Gaw—" That Mr. Bracken represent the contributors to the Hospital at Maori Point." Carried. Messrs. Mirfin and Pritchard were then elected for Arthur's Point; Mr. Smith for Kingston, and Mr. Williamson for Frankton. The following names were then proposed and seconded to represent Queenstown: — Messrs. M'Gaw, Willis, Gordon, Rees, Lockhart, Croft, Bruce, Comiskey, Walker, Brown, Grumitt, Beetham, Welsh, and Budd.
The election then took place in accordance with the rules laid down in the Ordinance, when the following were declared elected:— Messrs. Rees, M'Gaw, Gordon, Croft, Lockhart, Brown, Beetham. Mr. T. Brown was then elected treasurer, tnd Mr. Grumitt, secretary. Mr. Welsh proposed that the medical officer be elected by the present meeting. Mr. Gordon moved as an amendment that the meeting adjourn; which was carried.
A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
COMMITTEE MEETING.
A meeting of the Hospital Committee was held at Queenstown on Thursday. Mr. Rees was unanimously elected permanent Chairman of Committee.
It was proposed by Dr. Croft, seconded by Mr. Brown, and carried—" That Dr. Pelley be requested to continue his services at the Hospital, until such time as a permanent Burgeon be elected, at the same rate of salary he at present draws from Government." Dr. Pelley being called, the foregoing resolution was read to him, and his consent was given to act until a medical officer shall have been elected according to the Hospital Act. Proposed by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mr. M'Gaw, and carried—" That the Committee meet at the Hospital, at Frankton, on Thursday next, at noon, to audit accounts and fix a day fox the election of a resident medical officer.
It was then resolved—" That the Secretary communicate with the members of Commit-
tees at the Arrow and outlying districts the purport of the foregoing resolutions, and after a vote of thanks to the chair, the meeting separated.
