It has been rumored that a nugget, composed of gold and quaatz, and weighing 350 oz., was lately brought into Queenstown and sold for £250. We have made diligent inquires concerning this rumour, but up to the present time are compelled to acknowledge our inability to trace the story to its source.
Ikeland.—The Tipperary ' Free Press' statas that on the ef the 11th of February two men, named Grogan and Ryan, were proceeding homeward near Cashel, and had a dispute about the murder of M. Thiebault, when Grogan pulled out a pistol and fiired at Ryan, who was saved by two flannel vests knotted in front, the ball having struck the knots. Grogan was arrested and brought before the Hon. Mr. Ffrench, who remanded him for further examination. Scotland.—Milne, the man who murdered his fellow workman, Paterson, has been sentenced to death. [A memorial has been sent to the Home Secretary in behalf of Milne, signed by counsel for the defence, praying for reprieve of sentence, on the ground of the prisoner's insanity. The verdict of the jury finding Milne guilty was passed by nine to six, the minority beinpr of opinion that the prisoner was insane.]— The case of the late terrible collision at Winchburgh came before the High Court of Justiciary on the on the 16th February. Mr. Latham, general manager, and Mr. Thompson, traffic superintendent, of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway, were charged with culpable homicide and culpable neglect of duty. After eight hours trial, the Lord Advocate intimated he could not press for a conviction. The court concurred, and a verdict of " Not Guilty" was returned.
