Melbourne, January 12. Further reports respecting the attempted robbery at the Colliugwood subbranch of the Commercial Bank of Australia confirm the statement of Mrs Ravenseroft's death. The bank manager made a most plucky defence when attacked by the robbers. The assailants are larrikins, one of whom was armed with a revolver, the second carried » crowbar, and the third a tomahawk. No money was stolen, the robbers being completely foiled in their attempt 10 secure the coin. Four persons have been arrested in connection with the affair. Melbourne, January 13. Only one of the four men arrested in connection with the Coliingwood bank robbery has been detained, the other three being able to explain their movements to the satisfaction of the police were released from custody. The Victorian Seamen's Union has received a reply from the New South Wales Union, promising co-operation in case of a strike. The Brisbane Union has requested further information before giving a definite answer. The masters remain firm, and are determined, if the strike extends, to lay up their vessels rather than submit to the demands. Correspondence is now passing between the Teades Council and the ship-owners, relative to the proposal of the firstnamed body to establish a Board of Counciliation for a settlement of the dispute.
