NOTICE. TILLIAM TJ p IZE M.D., L.R.C.P., of Westport, Will he at Lyell TO-MORROW, (Sunday, 27th Septr.) Address: Empire Hotel. Memorandum: of association of the HAMPDEN SOOI 4TY OF CYNICS. 1. The name of the Society is, the 14 Hampden Sorety of Cynics." The objects for which the Society is established are : 2. To discourage as much as possible, the pernicious and ruinous practice of drinking in company, commonly termed %i shouting," 3. To raise funds by subscription and voluntary contributions, to be available in eases of accident, or sickness. 4. To encourage a social and friendly union tor mutual assistance; to further the cause of temperance, without going to any extremes, or interfering with the liberty of individuals; and thereby pro moting the well-being, and prosperity of the community. RULES. I. Any person may be admitted to membership, irrespective of state of health, age, creed, country or political opinions. 11. No member shall drink intoxicating liquor, except at his own expense; nor pay for liquor, which any other person may drink; neither lend or borrow money to be spent in such drink. 111. No member is to be watched, or accused, if he commits any breach of Rule No. 2, but the Committee will have the power to expel any member who is known to persist in breaking it, —after giving him due notice. IV. The entrance fee, is Two shillings and Sixpence. V. The weekly subscription shall be Sixpence. VI. Any member whose subscriptions are over three months in arrear, shall not be qualified to vote at the Society's meetings. VII. The Society does not bind itself to pay a member any fixed sum, or any sum; but will dispose of the funds to members as circumstances may demand, and as the majority decides. VIIL In balloting for the admission of a candidate, a number of black balls equal to one third of the members present at the meeting, will exclude the candidate ; and in balloting for the expulsion of a member, the same proportion of black balls will expel. IX. The penalty for breaking Rule 2, is One Shilling, but as the breaker of the rule is his own accuser, and judge, the fine must be voluntarily paid, or not paid at all. Xt A member may resign at any time; but should he wish to be re-admitted at any future time, he shall pay a fee of Five Shillings, and be balloted for, in the usual way. XI. Youths between the ages of 14 and 21 years shall be admitted free, on signingthe Memorandum of Association; and shall not be expected to pay any subscription until of age : but if youths so admitted, shall resign, or be expelled, they I shall then be subject to the same regulations as those of age, XII.
