NEW ZEALAND WINE.
ALIEN BOARD'S SUGGESTIONS. NO ACTION TO BE TAKEN. [From Oun Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, September 30. Probably the chief object of the special inquiry by tbo Aliens Board into the loyalty of the North Auckland Croatian gum-diggers was accomplished when its report war, published l with assurances which completely allayed public anxiety regarding these men. The board made several recommendations, one being that the sale of New Zealand wine should bo more rigorously controlled, because there was evidence of excessive drinking; in Maori centres. They suggested that New Zealand wine should only be sold by the makers to hotelkeepers and licensed wholesale dealers, and that representative and reliable Dalmatians should be appointed as Justices of the Peace, so as to provide the European community with further guarantees that their compatriots would not give anxiety to the authorThe wine license proposal would need legislation to become effective, and the Minister of Justice, the Hon ■. Dr M'Nab, informs your correspondent that the Justice Department does not consider it necessary to take this step, nor is it deemed necessary to appoint Dalmatian Justices of the Peace.
