SUNBEAM KINDERGARTEN.
BIRTHDAY PARTY. The birthday party of the Sunbeam Kindergarten was held at the school on Friday, when despite the wet weather there was a very large attendance. The function was to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the opening of the first free kindergarten school in Christchurch.
Within the school all was gay and festive and the beautiful floral decorations added not a little to the bright scene.
The tiny pupils numbered over fifty, and ages ranged from three years to five years old. Under the supervision of their teachers they went through a series of action songs and marching,, after which a birthday calce, which had been made and presented to the children by Mrs Jones, was cut by Mrs Chilton and served to the little ones.
Mrs Chilton gave a short speech and spoke of the work of the school during the year. She thanked the mothers for their help and said their recognition showed their appreciation of # tho work being done for their children. • - ' .
The president (Mrs T. E. Taylor), gave a short account. of the finance* of the Kindergarten Association, and said the public would shortly have ah opportunity of seeing-ia fine exhibition or kindergarten work and its methods. The Rev Hore delivered a shfjrt address in praise of ihe good work" the kindergarten schools are doing. Afternoon tea was served by the Sunbeam Committee to a hundred guests, amongst whom were Mrs Mere-dith-Kaye, Mrs White (Timaru), Mrs Norton, Mrs Perry, Mrs Hull (Napier), Rev J. and Mrs flore and Mr and Mrs, Brown.
